We said good-bye to our special ride as we dropped it off at the start of storage season. We weren't allowed into the garage to see how it'd be stored, and had to provide a battery-tender if we didn't want the truck to be dead when we'd pick it up 5 months later. We paid up-front for the full term of the booking and were told to call 2-weeks before we wanted to pick up our truck.
Flash forward to 5 months later... when (after waiting 20 or so minutes for our truck to be brought to us) an employee walked out with the key in his hand and said he couldn't get the truck started. We pointed out that was because the key was to a Ford Mustang, not an International Harvester Travelall.
The employee said "oops!", and disappeared with a casual, "I'll be right back- wait here!" We waited. He wasn't right back, and when he came back it was to say they'd lost the key- and ask, "do you have another?"
We did, an Ilco cut from the original key (made of unobtanium) and set off to fetch it. We wondered HOW COULD THEY LOSE THE KEY? THEY HAD ONE JOB!!
We gave the Ilco to the guy. He still couldn't get the truck started 🙄. Defeated, he let us in the garage to start the truck ourselves. What we saw horrified us (well, not horrified, but it was certainly unacceptable).
So we set out to do storage better.
